The Swim Lesson

CUSTOMIZED LESSONS

TAILORED TO YOU

One size does NOT fit all when it comes to learning how to swim. That's why individualized lesson plans are crafted to match your unique learning style. Lesson time is always structured to work towards your specific goals, using developmentally and age-appropriate teaching methods.

A PLACE FOR EVERYONE

ALL AGES & ABILITIES

No matter what age you are or what aquatic goals you have, swimming is for EVERYONE. Whether the aim is to develop comfort in the water, learn how to be safe in the pool, refine stroke technique, or anything in between, each and every swimmer at Head Above Water will be given the individualized attention that their aquatic journey deserves. Read more about the Services offered at Head Above Water.

MEETING YOU WHERE YOU'RE AT

AN ATTUNED & GENTLE APPROACH

Learning is most successful when the instruction is attuned, skill-oriented and fun! By meeting each swimmer where they're at, Kate prides herself on her ability to hone in on what each swimmer needs in order to best succeed. Kate strives to help every swimmer build strong, positive foundations with the water, instilling skills that will last a lifetime!

ONE-ON-ONE LESSONS

LEARN IN A DISTRACTION FREE ENVIRONMENT

When you swim at Head Above Water's West LA pool, you can expect a private, distraction-free lesson environment. With only one lesson scheduled at any given time, every swimmer will be able to enjoy their pool time privately and without interruption. Additionally, given that Kate owns the pool, the temperature and water conditions are always optimal. Read more about the pool location.

UNMATCHED EXPERTISE

MULTI-FACETED & ROBUST BACKGROUND

Kate's unique background lends itself to a teaching style unlike any you will find in Los Angeles. Kate has over three decades of experience in aquatics (15 years as a competitive swimmer and, separately, over 15 years of in-the-water teaching experience). In addition, Kate holds two Master's degrees -- one in Communications from USC's Annenberg School for Communication and one in Counseling Psychology from Mount Saint Mary's University — the second of which led her to her passion for child and human development. As a practicing Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT10677), Kate brings a multi-faceted and diverse range of experience to her students that is unparalleled.
